Briton John Foley is on trial after allegedly treating one of his daughters like a slave for 12 years. Joanne, his daughter from his first marriage, has diabetes.
From a young age, Foley is alleged to have verbally abused her. He once allegedly put her in a holdall and threatened to take her back to her mother. From the age of nine, she was forced to do housework. She was often grabbed by the hair. He also allegedly trod on her fingers when she fell, and almost drowned her on one occasion. But was the loving father to her half-sister, almost like a modern-day version of ‘Cinderella.’
She was then kicked out and disowned as soon as she turned 16. Now 27, Joanne recently decided to sue her father. Foley is now standing trial, accused of 13 counts of child cruelty.
